The command (⌘-E on Macs—a single keystroke since they're pressed simultaneously) wasn't showing up earlier, but it's working now so I don't know what that was all about... thanks.

My workflow depended heavily on quick, temporary layers with masks that I would "merge down" with a single keystroke after painting on the masks. Has Adobe taken away that command?! It appears to be gone in the latest version. I NEED this command!!

When using Photoshop CC (20.0.1) and a Wacom Intuos Pro, WHY do I constantly have this irritating issue: The brush cursor (doesn't matter which tool) almost immediately disappears and is replaced by a spinning ball (Adobe's version, a little circle of dots that appear to spin), making accurate strokes impossible. This is a HUGE problem, and it has only appeared within the last few weeks. I have a 10-core iMac Pro with 64gb ram. Not only is my main drive an SSD (with plenty of space), but so are my two additional drives used as Scratch disks. I know you're going to blame the Wacom tablet, but isn't that almost a standard tool with Photoshop? I haven't found reference to this problem anywhere.

Unfortunately learning and running a command-line app to fix this problem involves more time than I have. Fwiw, I have narrowed down the problem further: All of the affected files were taken with a Canon 5d Mark II. No other RAW files on those drives—including from other Canons, Nikons and Kodak cameras between 2002 and 2018—are affected. I know. Again, it’s the fact that only .dng files are affected, nd dng files from several years’ time. neither Disk Utility nor Disk Warrior report any problem

Why are we still discussing this? I’m well aware of hard drive failure, and these files have always existed in more than one place.The same files that I discovered on my backup were also corrupt on my archive. And again…how could this happen only to these RAW files? Hardware failure wouldn’t be that specific, attacking only RAW files, and thousands of them (leaving all other data, including JPGs, readable). Well I’m happy for you. So far nobody has offered a reasonable explanation for how this could have happened. It only happened to random RAW files (surrounded by others that still work) from many years ago. I’ve never had any other files corrupted by a hard drive. And I have several terabytes of data. For many years I have been slavishly converting my raw files to DNG in the (apparently mistaken) belief that this would ensure continued compatibility with Photoshop and Lightroom. Going back a few years I have discovered hundreds—possibly thousands—of dng files that won't open at all in Photoshop or Lightroom ("unexpected end-of-file occurred"). These same files OPEN WITHOUT A PROBLEM IN APPLE's PHOTOS APP. None of these images have ever before been opened in any program other than Photoshop and Lightroom. My backup versions of the same files won't open in Photoshop or Lightroom either. Apple's Photos app has no problem with any of these files. They also appear quickly in Apple's Preview. So don't tell me it's my hardware. How is this possible? The tedious task of finding the bad ones, opening them in Photos, exporting to TIF and then importing them again to Lightroom is simply not practical. There MUST be a better way—and a way to prevent this from happening again. This is an emergency for me, as I must have access to all these files for a huge project due this Friday
